Summary:

The System Administrator  designs, recommends, develops, tests, 
implements, supports, secures and monitors all administrative 
functions for the efficient operation of virtual and physical enterprise
Linux servers and related systems. This position requires the highest 
level of industry proficiency on the Linux operating system and associated 
software and middleware 
(Apache, Jboss, etc). Responsibilities include full life cycle management - from 

architecting new server environments, to production support, to platform sunset. 

Responsibilities:

•Servers
  - Designs, recommends, develops, tests, implements, supports, secures and 
monitors all administrative functions for the efficient operation of virtual and
physical enterprise Linux servers and related systems.
  - Installs new virtual and physical Linux servers / Upgrades existing servers
  - Creates and manages network and server accounts.
  - Monitors server backups and restores
  - Ensures adequate server security
  - Assists with the administration of other server system including MS Windows Server.
•SAN/Disk - oAdjusts disk space restrictions
•Installing and supporting new server hardware and software infrastructure
•Working with 3rd party vendors for supported applications.
•Administrating VMWare ESX Servers; Administrating NetApp SAN Solution;
•Building new DataTrak servers; Configuring Linux networking environments; 
Rebuilding Sybase databases; Reviewing log files; Creating scheduled metric 
reports for management review; Performing backups, performance tuning, and 
other duties as assigned.
•Ensuring that hardware and software systems are maintained
•Allocating network resources
•Providing technical support to users with very different levels of IT knowledge 
and competence
•Ensuring the most cost effective and efficient use of servers
•Suggesting and providing IT solutions to business and management problems
•Ensuring that all IT equipment complies with industry standards
•Trouble-shooting, ranging from critical system outages to forgotten passwords
•Implementing and monitoring security measures and standards
•Training users – sometimes one-to-one, sometimes in groups - and providing written 
guidelines and instructions
•Working closely with other departments/organizations to analyze requirements or 
solve problems
•Planning and implementing future IT developments
•System maintenance and administration of internal networks and public web services
•Monitoring and reporting system performance
•Participating in projects 
•Contributing articles to the technical support knowledge base
•Work closely with other teams for problem resolution and project coordination
•Install, administer, and configure VMWare ESX Servers
•Install, administer, and configure NetApp Storage Area Network components

•Other duties and projects as assigned 

Skills Required:

•Requires the highest level of industry proficiency on the Linux operating system
and associated software and middleware (Apache, Jboss, etc). 
•3+ years prior RedHat technical support experience
•Diverse range of skills as well as an understanding of how to participate in an 
agile, team oriented environment.
•Strongly developed analytical and trouble shooting skills
•Good communication skills
•Knowledge and Experience with RedHat Linux Enterprise or Workstation 
operating system
•Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows 2000 professional and 
Microsoft XP operating system
•Extensive knowledge and experience with the BASH shell environment
•Team-player with ability to learn complex technical material
•1+ years experience working with VMWare or equivalent virtualization technology

•1+ years experience working with NetApp or equivalent 

 
Education Requirement:

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and at least 10 years of
related technical experience
•AS  in related field or equivalent
•3+ years working with RedHat Linux

•RedHat Certified Engineer certification
