Summary:
 
The Senior DBA is responsible for the performance of the Oracle database environment.   
This person will work with each team within the IT department and management
to keep the database system running at optimal efficiency for our customers. 
This person is responsible for the Oracle backup strategy, converting customers
from our legacy system into our current system, implement patches and upgrades,
and make sure our future hardware needs are met.  The Senior DBA will work closely
with software developers to ensure applications are developed according to specific
performance and usability requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

•Lead Oracle scaling efforts for a customer base that doubles every 12 months
 
•Design, develop, and maintain backup strategy
 
•Complex Query tuning for n-tier, mission critical, customer facing web applications
 
•Converting customer data from the legacy Sybase Anywhere DBMS product to the Oracle DBMS product
 
•Support of daily operations including job monitoring and troubleshooting of the 24x7 production environment
 
•Keeping the database up to date on patches
 
•Supporting the rollout of new versions of the product
 
•Managing the storage capacity of the system
 
•Securing the data stored within the Oracle DBMS
 
•Creating and maintaining development and QA environments
 
•Create data flows and conceptual models defining the informational needs of projects
 
•Provide leadership in logical/physical modeling and design
 
•Consult with project sponsors regarding information flow and content, including the facilitation of information gathering sessions
 
•Assist in the development of project plans and deliverable lists for proposed projects
 
•Create written reports of findings and recommendations on performance analysis, feasibility studies and cost justification statements
 
•Develop and maintain data architecture, data management standards and conventions, data dictionaries, data element naming standards and data dictionary metadata standards
 
•Coordinate activities related to data planning and recovery
 
•Lead and mentor development of team members using industry standard data management practices 
 
•Participate in a collaborative team environment functioning within the SCRUM (agile) methodology
 
•Able to express recommendations based on client desires, product architecture, cost, quality, and delivery timelines
 
•Able to mentor, interact, and ensure cross-team and cross-department cooperation
 
•Guide business areas in identifying new data needs and delivery mechanisms for reporting information
 
•Establish documentation of reports and data definitions
 
•Experience developing with PL/SQL
 
•Experience developing with TSQL
 
•Experience developing thin-client applications using Java
 
•Experience with building and deploying J2EE applications
 
•Experience with Linux and Windows
 

•Development experience with JDBC or object/relational persistence strategies 

 
Skills Required:

•Oracle 10G OCP certified
 
•7+ years DBA experience
 
•5+ years RMAN
 
•5+ years Linux
 
•5+ years shell scripting
 
•5+ years SQL, PL/SQL, and TSQL
 
•2+ years of development experience using HTML, XHTML, JSP, Servlets, HTTP, HTTPS, and JavaScript
 
•2+ year of experience with web containers such as Tomcat, JBoss, or WebSphere
 
•5+ years of experience with Data Base Management Systems such as Oracle, DB2/400, SQL Server, Sybase, or MySQL
 
•3+ years of database partitioning and virtual private database
 
•3+ years of SAN/NAS configuration and optimization
 
•Deep understanding of business, data requirement needs and data relationships
 
•Facilitation and coaching skills
 

•Working knowledge of data modeling 

 

Education Requirement:
•B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
