Summary:
The Business Analyst provides the critical link between the business and technology
sides of the organization by effectively discerning and analyzing the true needs of
business users, developing and modeling detailed steps that most effectively and
efficiently solve business problems, and communicating these solutions to technology
staff. The Business Analyst works with business resources within the company
(end users, managers, and executives) as well as business interest external to the
company (customers, suppliers, and partners). The Business Analyst works throughout
the continuum of detail from the extremely general to the extremely specific and has
a critical mind to identify opportunities when none may seemingly exist.
Responsibilities:
•Participates in a collaborative team environment functioning within the SCRUM (agile)
methodology
•Works with Product Owners to identify product stakeholders and user classes, document
user characteristics, identify appropriate representatives for each user class, and negotiate
their responsibilities.
•Elicits user needs using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards,
surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, user stories, scenarios, event lists,
business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis, and/or viewpoints.
•Writes requirements, specifications, and stories according to standard templates, using natural
language simply, clearly, unambiguously, and concisely. Represents requirements and specifications
using alternative views, such as analysis models (diagrams), prototypes, or scenarios.
•Expresses recommendations based on client desires, product architecture, cost, quality, and
delivery timelines •Mentors, interacts, and ensures cross-team and cross-department cooperation
•Clearly presents ideas and solutions to small or large audiences of customers and upper
management
•Models requirements through UML, Use Cases, and User Stories
•Develops and maintains a knowledge of operations and management
Skills Required:
•Interviewing skills – Ability to talk with individuals, users, and groups about their needs
and ask the right questions to surface essential requirement information
•Analytical Skills - Ability to critically, judiciously, and quickly evaluate information gathered
from multiple sources, reconcile conflicting input, decompose high-level information into details,
abstract low-level information to more general level, distinguish presented user requests from
the true underlying needs, and distinguish solution ideas from actual requirements
•Facilitation skills – Ability to lead requirements elicitation meetings and workshops
•Modeling skills – Ability to represent requirements information in graphical forms that augment
textual representations in natural language, including using a variety of modeling languages
Education Requirement:
•Bachelor’s degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university
•Current Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) in good standing
•7+ years experience in Systems Analysis
•7+ years reviewing the systems of various types such as: Accounting, Finance, Marketing,
Sales, Inventory, Scheduling, POS, EFT, and Credit Card Processing. Experience with Website design
•Experience performing usability studies, ROI, NPV, and feasibility analysis
•Excellent writing skills, experience with teaching, facilitating, and leading seminars and training sessions
