The Technical Writer is responsible for creating end-user documentation, training materials and CBTs, and video tutorials for the company’s software applications.  This individual will collaborate with programmers, product management, business analysts, and product implementation to gain an understanding of the product or system under development and determine the appropriate type of documentation needed.  Much of the documentation produced is for the end-user audience, and will be in the form of online help files.  This position requires advanced knowledge of technical and end-user documentation types, documentation tools, processes, software engineering methodologies, and software development lifecycles.  Must have the motivation and ability to perform critical analysis about how users will interact with the software, and turn those thoughts into detailed documents and tutorials.  This position REQUIRES a Bachelors degree, preferably in Technical Writing, User  Experience, English, Computer Science or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of technical documentation, user education, or CBT/Video Tutorial production.

 Responsibilities:
•Excellent organization, communication and writing skills with passion for good design and strong attention
to detail

•Ability and desire to learn complex web applications quickly

•Outstanding analytical skills to interpret business requirements and use cases and provide technical and end-user documentation at a level easily understandable to non-technical users

•Solid working knowledge of HTML

•High proficiency in documentation tools such as RoboHelp

•Comfort with screen capture programs such as SnagIt and Camtasia•Basic programming knowledge is a plus

•Works with the development team, business analyst, implementation team, and Product Owner to identify needed documentation and the best format for end-user education

•Presents the strategy for all technical and user documentation•Works closely with development and support teams to ensure total product quality

•Participate in a collaborative team environment functioning within the SCRUM (agile) methodology

•Understands a product’s purpose and then ensures the user documentation strategy substantiates that purpose

•Communicates desired functionality with development teams and product owners•Prepares and facilitates documentation or tutorial demonstrations

•Discovers and analyzes requirements (written and oral) to derive documentation plans and estimates

•Learns multiple software products, hardware devices, and software platforms, and creates appropriate documentation and training materials

•Ensures cross-team and cross-department cooperation 

Skills Required:

•Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical data

 •Excellent verbal and written communication skills•Basic skills including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions

 •Ability to problem-solve using deductive reasoning in a timely manner•Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a multi-tasking environment•Excellent troubleshooting skills

•Makes appropriate and effective use of team approach to problem solving 

Education Requirement:
•Bachelors degree, preferably in Technical Writing, User Experience, English, Computer Science or a related field
from an accredited college or university

•5 years experience in the field of technical documentation, user education, or CBT/Video Tutorial production
