80 year old company is looking for an experienced SAN/Unix Administrator
DESCRIPTION:
** Unix (HP-UX and AIX) and SAN Administrator generalist acting as technical systems engineer providing infrastructure support and will be involved in both production support and project exercises, including that of the enterprise ERP implementation utilizing Oracle**s E-Business Suite. Individual will have general responsibilities that include hardware, software, and configuration in support. Candidate must have proven experience with large-scale n-tiered HP UNIX environments, as well as current IBM AIX exposure.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
** Design, implement and maintain distinct environments required for OTC project (including Sandbox, Development, UAT, Production, etc).
** Perform all aspects of general system administration functions for the HP systems environment, including:
** Hardware planning, installation, and configuration (current PA-RISC and Itanium systems on the HP side, p5 or pSeries on the IBM side).
** Solid hands-on experience with HP SAN
Technology (XP, EVA) in enterprise implementations a must. Candidates with BC & CA experience preferred.
** OS upgrade / patch planning and implementation experience required (current HP-UX 11i a plus, AIX 5.2+).
** Engineering and administrative experience related to supporting a fault-tolerant implementation (RAC cluster) a definite plus.
** Partitioning concepts and implementation experience required (nPars, vPars, partition manager, Virtual Partitions (IBM), etc).
** Administration experience related to management of resources (WLM, PRM, etc) required
** Responsible for backup/recovery functions (Veritas, etc).
** Must be versed in network requirements and concepts (e.g., load balancing)
** Server consolidation experience a plus (sizing, migrations, resource utilization, etc)
** Solid, proven work experience in clustering area required (MC/ServiceGuard). Those with experience supporting Oracle databases (including RAC) are preferred.
** Understanding of current virtualization strategies a definite plus
** Must be well-versed in general systems administration; including security, change management, event monitoring (EMS), software distribution, automation strategies, troubleshooting, job scheduling, scripting, etc
** System Administration experience on AIX Systems is a Must.
** Administration knowledge supporting Oracle database and 11i Applications (eBusiness Suite) environment a definite plus.
** Need to have strong HP Administration skills related to both PA-RISC and Itanium architecture.
** Working knowledge of HP storage-related utilities and tools (such as CommandView, PerfView, and Raid Manager) preferred.
** Performance and Capacity Planning:
** Must be familiar with all aspects of tuning
(Unix kernel, etc), for both IBM and HP Unix systems environments.
** Specific performance and tuning experience in full-scale Oracle eBusiness Suite ERP environments an advantage (configurations, database optimization, etc)
** Candidates who show proficiency with 3rd party performance and tuning software at an advantage; Capacity planning/modeling experience desired (HP and IBM Unix servers).
** Must be adept at identifying and eliminating performance bottlenecks and making performance-related recommendations [hardware, software, configuration], and be able to work with various teams (i.e., AD) to resolve issues
** Disaster recovery planning, implementation, and simulation experience a definite plus
** Those with experience with Linux and Solaris at a distinct advantage
** Candidate should be fluent in writing/debugging shell scripts
SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
** Must possess strong understanding of configuration management disciplines, including standardized inclusion, verification, and synchronization techniques
** Extensive experience with Fiber Switches and SAN a must (Cisco, Director-level a plus).
** Must posses hands on skills required for configuration and management of enterprise-class disk arrays (XP and EVA specifically)
** Data center planning and system migrations experience a plus
** Ability to perform software evaluations and recommendations, as well as take on contract/vendor management role
** Candidate must have excellent problem determination and project planning skills
** Must be able to create and maintain technical and conceptual documentation
** Knowledge of middleware and integration solutions (e.g., MQSeries, adapters, etc) a plus
** Candidate must be able to perform QA, test planning, and system configuration standards
** Work with others to develop work estimates and schedule commitments
** Provide technical expertise and support for various IT and business groups (AD, DBA, Operations, etc), and specifically work closely with development teams during all phases of life cycle
** Provide technical and business coaching to less experienced team members
** Be able to work well autonomously or as part of a team (will work closely with Tech Lead, Development Lead, DBAs, Testing group, vendors CEs, consultants, etc)
** Communicate accurate and timely status and issues
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS:
** Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or degree from a Technical Institute highly preferred
** 5-7 years experience in current HP-UX system environments, 3+ in Systems Administration or SAN Administrator role
** Familiarity with formal system deliverables such as work plans, requirements documents, process models, test conditions and user documentation
** Familiarity with office automation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
** Must be able to translate business requirements into technical solutions
** Ability to work well with others and take direction
** Must be willing to travel on occasion
** Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities
