Cycle3 IT Staffing is seeking a DBA with both a SQL and Oracle background. This is a 6 month contract to hire.

 

Position Essential Functions

  • Implements databases and related objects
  • Evaluates and resolves database and database server problems
  • Installs and maintains database engines on data base servers
  • Maintains data security and access rights at a level appropriate to protect it from accidental or deliberate misuse
  • Configures, tunes and administers the databases to keep them running efficiently and respond to problems as they occur
  • Utilizes software diagnostic and monitoring tools to determine where in the processing cycle a problem or error is occurring
  • Provides tools that deliver baseline reports on the database size, transaction rates, etc to use in problem solving and capacity planning
  • Provides DBA accessibility to database servers from home in order to provide quick problem response
  • Installs as needed database software on servers and clients
  • Installs service packs to assure and fixes supplied by database vendor
  • Evaluates hardware requirements, application query performance, and database and server management tools
  • Uses available resources for problem identification and resolution
  • Establishes backup procedures for database recovery and develops processes for disaster recovery
  • Implements security upgrades
  • Researching, architecting, designing, securing and presenting advanced SQL architectures
  • Understand, follow and promote SQL Server best practices
  • Able to set priorities and work with limited direction to achieve desired goals and results

Position Specifications

Educational Preference:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Systems or an equivalent degree

Job Experience:

  • 5 years of Database administration experience required
  • Relational database theory and design
  • Experience administering large scale and high visibility production environments
  • Experience with researching, architecting, designing, securing and presenting advanced SQL architectures
  • Interpersonal skills and strong problem solving ability

Describe a typical day. Include tasks and who they deal with.

      • Reviewing performance reports and logs from the previous day
      • Working with application development teams on:
      • Server provisioning
      • SQL Server and Oracle install and configuration
      • Code/system optimization
      • Code deployment
      • Application performance trouble-shooting
      • Data Architecture team collaboration
      • Implementation of proactive best practices
      • Participate in an on call rotation (24/7 for a week about once a month)

 

 

      • The ideal candidate has both SQL Server and Oracle experience. They may have more years of experience in one than the other but having experience in both is key
      • SQL Server
      • Years of experience – at minimum 5 years*
      • Versions of SQL Server – We support 2000, 2005 and 2008
      • Years of experience – at minimum 5 years*
      • Versions of Oracle – We support 10g and 11g
      • Ideal candidate will have experience with RMAN
      • Ideal candidate will have experience installing and configuring
      • The ideal candidate has been a DBA for the entire time. There are developers that have some DBA experience but it is usually not as in depth as a career DBA. There are some people that have a lot of IT experience and have recently (1-3 years) transitioned to being a DBA. This would not be ideal.
      • server operating system experience should include:
        • Windows 2003 and some Windows 2008 R2, Linux would be a plus
